Pöllat-Pavillon
The Pöllat Pavilion, also known as "Pöllat Island", was built in 2019 by Münchner Wohnen as a multifunctional social facility on Neuschwansteinplatz in Giesing. It replaced a low-rise building from 1969, which temporarily housed the municipal library and temporary uses and was vacant from 2003. Financed with urban development funds, the building now serves as a family and social centre with a variety of uses for the people of Giesingen: as a neighbourhood meeting place, for events, as a rehearsal room, advice centre and for childcare. The garden between the building and the noise barrier is also used jointly. In 2024, Münchner Wohnen and the architectural firm macro architekten received the Otto Borst Prize for Urban Regeneration in the "Special Place" category for the pavilion, which recognises outstanding measures for conservation, conversion and further construction.
The noise barrier, which symbolises the Pöllat mountain river with its winding design, shields the building from the Mittlerer Ring.
